The History of New Vintage Amplifiers

New Vintage Amplifiers, LLC was started in the early fall of 2008 by Nic Patullo. How does one decide that he wants to build high quality amplifiers you ask? Nic's interest in electronics and music started early. After picking up his first guitar and amplifier at the age of 11, there was no turning back... Growing up with a father with strong “Do It Yourself” ethics and high aptitude for construction, Nic was exposed to things like metalworking and woodworking, as well as a strong urge to question how things work.

Being extremely interested in music and audio, Nic began learning electronics on his own. Building simple microphone preamps, guitar pedals, and doing simple repairs on guitar amps, accompanied the endless hours of peering over schematics and studying electronics manuals.

In 2000, Nic met Walt Gorgoschlitz, a renowned amp serviceman, designer and owner of Flatstone Amplification. After talking for a bit about amps and electronics, Walt asked if Nic would be interested in helping him build his amplifiers at his shop in Poplar, WI. Nic continued to learn electronics and guitar amplifier design under the tutelage of Walt for the next 6 years.

In 2007, after moving Flatstone to Austin, TX, then to Corpus Christi, TX a year earlier, Walt decided it was time to do something different and sell the business. After all the fine details were settled, Walt sold the business to his friend and former employee, Nic Patullo and another business partner in May of 2007. His experience at Flatstone, along with his studies of electronics, audio, woodworking, and metalworking made him a logical candidate to “pass the torch” on to.

After a year of running Flatstone Amplification, Nic felt his design ideas had taken a different direction and decided to leave Flatstone. Out of this decision, New Vintage Amplifiers was born. We at New Vintage Amps are excited about what the future holds and are thrilled with the opportunity to help musicians just like themselves, find their own unique tone.
